**About the Opportunity**
The Global Finance Director (GFD) is the organization’s senior financial leader, responsible for **safeguarding financial integrity**, **ensuring donor compliance**, and **enabling mission impact** through strong financial strategy and stewardship. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the GFD partners with the Chief Executive, Global Management Group (GMG), and Board (including the Finance Committee, Audit & Risk Committee) to guide **long-term sustainability**, **manage risk**, and **ensure transparent, ethical use of funds**.
You will lead the design and implementation of financial and business development policies and oversees financial management from planning and control through to regulatory compliance—across HQ and multi-country operations.
**Your Responsibilities**
This role includes the following responsibilities.
- **Shape and execute a global financial strategy**, advising the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board on performance, sustainability, and long-term planning.
- **Lead multiyear budgeting**, scenario planning, reserves policy, and financial analysis across multiple entities and country programs.
- Lead **scenario planning**, **multiyear budgeting for US, France and UK entities and country of operations**, **cost efficiency** and **value for money** strategies and define reserves **policies**
- **Oversee global financial operations**—including accounting, treasury, reporting, systems integration, and policy development—to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and strong internal controls.
- Oversee **accounting, treasury, budgeting, and financial reporting** across HQ and all country offices; ensure timely, accurate
**monthly management accounts** and consolidated financials.
- **Ensure donor compliance** and high-quality grant financial management, including budgeting, reporting, audits, and partner due diligence.
- Ensure compliance with donor rules and regulations (e.g., ECHO, EU, USG, FCDO, UN agencies, foundations).
- **Manage financial risk**, maintain the financial risk register, and ensure compliance with tax, legal, and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions.
- **Provide governance support** through Board reporting, statutory audits, and strategic engagement with auditors and financial advisors.
- **Build and lead a high performing global finance team** while strengthening financial literacy, cross-functional collaboration, and a culture of accountability and data-driven decision making.
**About You**
You will bring the following experience and skills.
- **Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration**, or related field.
- **Recognized professional accounting qualification** (e.g., **ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CPA/CIPFA**) is preferred.
- **10+ years** of senior financial leadership, ideally in **INGOs/international development** with **multi-country** operations and diverse funding portfolios.
- Strong **management accounting** experience, including decision support analyses, **scenario planning**, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Demonstrable success in leading the **finance function** (accounting, budgeting, control, reporting) with cross-border complexity.
- Experience implementing **finance/ERP systems** and driving process improvements.
- In-depth knowledge of **donor compliance frameworks** and **audit** processes.
- Strong **analytical skills**; comfortable with **financial KPIs** and non-profit metrics.
- Ability to translate complex financial information for **diverse audiences**, including use of **data visualization**.
- Knowledge of **full cost recovery** methodologies.
- Excellent written and spoken **English**; effective communicator with senior stakeholders (SLT, Board, major funders).
- Strong skills in **financial IT systems** and **advanced Excel**, with proficiency in **Word** and **PowerPoint**.
- **Integrity, results orientation,** continuous improvement mindset, and a **collaborative, service oriented** style.
- Experience working with or on **non-profit boards** (e.g., France, UK charity/US 501(c)(3)) desirable.
- **Change management** leadership experience would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of **France,** **UK Charity Commission** and **Companies House** reporting; familiarity with **US 501(c)(3)** requirements would be a bonus.
